About the event

As the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is preparing to ride the post recession wave of direct investment in the country’s economy, particularly in the mining industry, the DRC government is calling for international explorations and operations in its rich mineral territory. Pivotal government officials, international mining houses, mining operators, industry stakeholders, business leaders, multilateral financiers, and suppliers will once again converge to share experiences, explore opportunities and gain practical insight on the lucrative potential of the DRC’s mineral and energy resources.

DRC is home to vast reserves of a wide variety of natural resources including base metals such as cobalt, and copper, gold, and precious stones including diamonds. DRC is believed to contain around 4% of the world's copper reserves and one-third of its cobalt reserves.

As the global economy begins to resuscitate, the mining sector follows in stride. The DRC witnessed more than $9-billion of investment on behalf of China during the first half of 2009, with capital scheduled to be injected into both mining operations and infrastructure.  Although production in the mining sector did suffer directly as a result of the global economic downturn and consequent decline in demand for minerals, the forecast for the mining industry in the DRC is looking wholly positive for a full revival of this sector with renewed opportunity to form public–private partnerships for exploration, extraction and production.

iPAD DRC  CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION  has become the largest yearly forum in the DRC to explore strategies for infrastructure development in the mining, power, transport, banking and telecommunication sectors. The conference and exhibition is the only international business-to-business forum in the DRC for government and business to meet and explore opportunities for developing and investing in the infrastructure of the country, specifically, and in the region, in general.  Since its inauguration five years ago, iPAD DRC CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION  has witnessed increased flows of capital into the DRC, despite so-called risks.  Now that the transition to a peacetime economy is well under way,  there is rejuvenated investor enthusiasm for increased investment into strategic sectors enabling development such as energy, transport, and communications.

This conference will discuss the future of the nation with particular emphasis on critical fiscal and legal issues now affecting the mining sector as well as infrastructure development requirements promoting operations and inter-regional connectivity in a post-conflict environment.

In KINSHASA, the event includes a 3-DAY EXHIBITION where the latest technologies, products, services and projects are showcased - In LUBUMBASHI you can expect a 2-DAY CONFERENCE.
